What’s Stopping You…

Recently I had the opportunity to be a guest on a podcast and the question came up around why people don’t do something.

For the past 15 years, I have been honoured to coach, educate and inspire people and during these training sessions a form of this question always arises;

What Stops You From (fill in the blank)?

The answer to this question boils down to 3 reasons;

  1. Don’t want it bad enough
  2. Lazy
  3. Fear

Personally, I can share a story (or 10) about all 3 of the above reasons why I didn’t do something, and I bet if you take a moment to reflect you would find this to be true.

Here’s the inspiring fact, each of the 3 reason’s above YOU are 100% in control of the solution.

So, what’s the solution?

The solution is very simple, but it’s not easy.

Anything you have already achieved in your life, solutions are always simple, but the execution was very hard painful and sometimes downright daunting.

This famous quote from the sage Rocky Balboa is true:

“The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don´t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently, if you let it. You, me or nobody, is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward, how much you can take, and keep moving forward. That´s how winning is done.”

Here’s the formula:

  1. Decide what you want
  2. Commit to it
  3. Do the work everyday
  4. Continually adjust until…

Each of these 4 steps in this formula is important, but step #3 is vital.

DO THE WORK EVERYDAY!

Because if you do the work;

  • You are making a decision
  • You are deepening your commitment
  • You are learning each and every day
  • You are adjusting and making changes
  • You are building momentum
  • You are eliminating the fear

Commit to do the work today

Pull out whatever device you use to organize your day. Mark down 3 things you will do today towards something you want to achieve.

Cross each off when finished. Write/Type a big “W” when all 3 are completed.

  • Win the day
  • Then… do it again tomorrow
  • Win more days than you lose
  • Win the week
  • Win more weeks than you lose
  • Win the month

And I promise you if you follow this path, in a year’s time you will be a different person and that thing you want to achieve will either be a reality or you will be closer than you were a year ago.

Do the work… Win the day today
